A charity garden for the The National Brain Appeal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023. Supported by Project Giving Back.

RHS Gold Medal and winner of Best Sanctuary Garden & Best Construction awards.

The National Brain Appeal fund a service called Rare Dementia Support. The word ‘dementia’ typically makes people think of memory loss in later life. However 20% of dementias are described as rare: being non-memory-led, young-onset and/or hereditary. The space has been designed primarily in response to a visual rare dementia called PCA - which affects visual processing and is particularly well described in the short animation ‘Do You See What I See?’. Living with PCA makes seeing, understanding and moving confidently through physical space extremely challenging. The result is a garden of contrasting materials to help distinguish components, and a simple layout that offers a balance between exploration and calm navigation.
